Gemini stops into The Place with a large picnic basket. She unpacks a
number of dishes, setting them at one end of the bar. There's lots of
stuff, including salad and pie.

"Thanksgiving leftovers for everyone!!" she announces.

"We've got so much for which to be thankful. My mom just got married,
to a fine man, with terrific grown children. Two of them came with
their spouses to my house for Thanksgiving dinner. We had a total of 18
people. I'm amazed that we had so much leftover, with such a big crowd."

Gemini! I'd almost forgotten how good your leftovers always are! We
didn't have any of our own this year -- instead of having visiting
family, we visited family. Fun, but no leftovers. So thanks, don't
mind helping myself. I'll bring my leftovers to the place after
Christmas. :)

Congrats to your mom. I think your dad would be happy for her. Hope
all is well with you.

Looking forward to it. :-) We do Christmas with my husband's family,
so I get to skip the leftovers then.

Dad would be happy that she's happy. I was asked, with concern, what I
thought of her relationship when she started dating. I can understand
why people feel badly about a widowed parent moving on. It is a
reminder of the absence of the other parent. When Mom was alone, Dad's
place was still there. That said, Dad wanted Mom to be happy when he
was here, and would still want that. I told people that Dad would find
a way to dope-slap any of his children who gave Mom trouble about moving
on and being happy.

(I've probably been watching too much John Edward Cross Country on cable.)

Yeah, probably. ;)

Y'know, I don't think people who were happily married ever "move on" in
the sense of leaving that treasured relationship behind them. But
sometimes they are healthy enough and positive enough about life to make
room in their heart for another person. I'm glad you are equally
big-hearted. (raising a glass) Here's to your dad, who can rest assured
that she won't be lonely.

"It certainly is a splendid table now!" Maria pops the cork on the
champaigne. "Yes, here's to a Father whose memory will always be
cherished, and to a family whose members accept the miracle of love..."
CRASH!!!

"Congratulations and best wishes to your mother, Gemini! It's wonderful
that you could celebrate such a heartwarming occasion as your mom's
wedding at Thanksgiving...and thank you for bringing the picnic!" Maria
fills a plate with leftovers, including a sliver of pie.

Daniel walks in and places a few additional dishes on the bar:

Apple-raisin-pine nut brown rice stuffing;
Sweet potatoes in orange sauce;
Green beans with ginger;
Pear pie

"I went back east to visit my mother for Thanksgiving, with a side
trip to see my dad and stepmother. All in all, enjoyable."
