Gemini bustles in, a definite bounce in her step.
"A round on me!" she tells Galileo. "I know that's not the usual thing
here, but I'm celebrating."
Gemini distributes drinks as Galileo gets them ready.
"We had our regional cross country meet today. First of all, the
weather report was pretty iffy, cold with scattered showers. We had a
great day for racing, other than a fair amount of wind."
Gemini stops for a sip, almost skipping in place as she does. She just
can't hold still.
"Last week, the boys won districts, and my daughter qualified for
regionals as an individual. They were picked to take perhaps 3rd before
the meet, and they won convincingly. So, coming into Regionals, we were
picked for 2nd behind a ranked team. We won, 36 to 82.
"The sophomore won overall. The senior was 12th. My boy, the freshman,
was 13. The junior was 15th. Our last scorer was 30th. It was our
best meet of the season."
Gemini tries to sit for a moment, but it doesn't look like she'll land
for long.
"We've got the state meet next weekend. We might have a shot at a
trophy, even. It's exciting. But, it's hard to know whether to hope
for it."
Sure enough, Gemini is up again.
"Oh, my daughter had a good race also. She was ahead of several people
who beat her at districts. But we're in a tough region. So, her season
is done."
