Gemini comes into the place and fixes herself a cuppa.

"Just had one of those 'small world' moments. It's a bit complicated to
explain, but it's worth sharing, I think."

Sipping, pausing to collect thoughts.

"We were foster parents for a few years, over a decade ago. We're still
'Mom and Dad' to Anthony. He was getting bounced around by the system,
and would be switching to a huge school in the middle of high school.
He was doing well and running on the cross country team at the local
school. So, we figured out how to allow him to stay where he was doing
well.

"One more background detail - my husband coaches the team at the high
school."

Another pause, another sip...

"So, there's a new boy on the team this fall, a freshman, who is in
foster care. We took him to get shoes tonight, so he wouldn't have to
run in basketball shoes. On the way to the running store, we stopped by
Anthony's, and ended up all having dinner together."

Time to top of the mug.

"It turns out, they've had some of the same foster parents. They've
each had a half dozen homes."

Stirring in the sweetener, since it's needed.

"They seem to remember the same bad apples quite clearly. Anthony is
almost 20 years older than JJ. But they describe the foster care
experience very much the same way."

Daniel comments. "I know that most states seem not to have enough
resources to properly keep tabs on foster parents, but might it be
worth the two of them sending a letter to the appropriate agency
asking that something be looked into?"

Dan, ad nauseam

The reason the younger one is now in our town is that the home they had
in common is now shut down.

There was one common foster sibling over the years, it seems. The older
one remembers him getting picked on as a young boy, and acting out. The
younger one remembers getting picked on by him when he entered care.
