Gemini leaves her comfy chair, and heads for the back alcove, where the
big screen is. She tunes in the Olympics.

"It's time for athletics. Sprinting, jumping, throwing. Steeplechase.
Multi-eventers. Pedestrians."

Gemini turns to the screen in anticipation.

"This year, the most I've seen of the Olympics are all of the media stories around Simone Biles and the rest of the gymnastic team," Skatha admits somewhat regretfully. "I wish the media would all take a step back and let the athletes be athletes, you know?"

"Ah!" says Gemini. "But the 'up close and personal' stuff gets *ratings*!"

Gemini nods, then continues. "Excuse the snark. Isn't it nice how well
the rest of the gymnastics team has done while Biles has been on the
sidelines?"

Gemini geeks out a bit:
"Track and field is well underway, and there have been some spectacular
performances. The final of the men's 400m hurdles is worth watching, if
you can find it online. The women's 400m hurdles promises fireworks, as
well. (The world record holder is in the field in both cases, as well
as at least one competitor capable of challenging.) The distance races
are all tactical in the hot, muggy conditions. The relays are always
bittersweet. They're fun to watch, but they mean it's over until next
time."

"I love how well the rest of the team did! I hope it reminds the media hounds not to get tunnel vision over their 'superstars' - it tends to be unhealthy for everyone in the end. I did catch the celebration at the end of the high jump, when the two decided to share the gold medal. That was pretty awesome."

That was a great moment. And they awarded each other the gold medals at
the victory ceremony. :)

I enjoyed seeing Alison Felix get her 11th medal with the 4x400 relay.
Go, Mom, go! Her youngest teammate was close to her daughter's age when
Felix got her first Olympic medal.

"Yeah, that was pretty awesome, too! I like seeing a lot of variety in world-class athletes - gives people more to look up to and relate with, don't you think?"
