Max looked at his watch, which he had forgotten that he has always set 20
minutes fast (so as not be late),
and jumped up and exclaimed, "Happy New Year!!" He got up in such a hurry he
did not notice that a lump
sweet potatoes flew off his plate and splattered on the floor.

A scraping noise, as though from a snow shovel, can be heard
approaching the door. After a few minutes, it stops, and footsteps
are heard walking away, then returning.

The door opens and Daniel walks in, carrying a very large Rubbermaid
container and a plastic bad. He heads straight to the kitchen,
calling out New Year's greetings. A few minutes later, he returns,
carrying the largest bowl in the kitchen, filled with salad, and a
cruet with a basil-shallot vinaigrette.

"Well, thanks to the storm, the party I was going to today has been
postponed a few hours, if not cancelled. So I thought I'd bring my
contribution here. Happy new year, everyone."

Gemini echoes Dan's sentiments as she helps herself to some salad.
Plate filled, she adds, "Be safe, be happy."
